Let me start by saying that I truly believe in advertising when it is done in good combinations and done properly.  Still I question where else are people going to advertise their business to get leads from people that are actively seeking their service?

-       Yellow Pages?   Dead!

-       Direct Mall?   Come on! Does anyone really read that stuff?

-       Newspaper?    Dead except for a few select industries: Real Estate, Automobiles, etc. and they do not work as well as they used to!

-       TV Commercials?  Can be effective is showed during the correct time for your target audience to see it, problem is that it is very expensive and needs to be aired many times to get a good response.

-       Radio?   You are trying to capture a need from a general audience that would need your service at the exact same time as your Ad is playing on the radio, and then somehow remember or write down your number in 30 seconds.  Not too effective in my eyes!  

-       Billboards?   Same idea, you’re trying to capture a need from people that need your service at the exact time they are driving by your billboard, and then expecting them to be able to remember the number or write it down. 

Ok you may or may not agree with me there, but It is what it is.

Let me break it down why it is vital for your business to have a properly built effective website.  It is very simple.  Do you think someone would type in, -Website design company Philadelphia- or –Website design company Delaware County PA- if they were not looking for a Website Design Company in their local area to help them?  Now insert your type of business there, -___________ company Philadelphia-. 

That is how people search for something when they are looking for someone to do business with.  They would not be actively going on to Google, Yahoo, or Bing and searching for a company if they did not need your service.  They are not doing it for fun, they are doing to kill time, they are not doing it because they are nuts in the head! That means they are looking for you, you are not looking for them or trying to capture their attention.  That is the difference between the Creative types of advertising that I mentioned above, and Directive Advertising where someone is actively looking for your service because they need it at that exact moment in time.

You need to look at it like this.  Other than a repeat customer or referral, you will not get a more qualified lead out there then from the Search Engines!  These people essentially have money in their hand and are ready to make a purchase, and that is why they are looking on the internet for your service.
