The Poetic Prophet (AKA The SEO Rapper) is back with another marketing rap. This time he describes how web standards and proper design can affect the ranking and conversion of pages on your site.
lyrics:Your site design is the first thing people see
it should be reflective of you and the industry
easy to look at with a nice navigation
when you can’t find what you want it causes frustration
a clear Call to action to increase the temptation
use appealing graphics they create motivation
if you have animation
use with moderation
cause search engines can’t index the information
display the logos of all your associations
highlight your contact info that’s an obligation
create a clean design you can use some decoration
but to try to prevent any client hesitation
every page that they click should provide and explanation
should be easy to understand like having a conversation
when you design the style go ahead and use your imagination
but make sure you use correct color combinations
do some investigation, look at other organizations
but don’t duplicate or you might face a litigation
design done, congratulations but it’s time to start construction
follow these instructions when you move into production
your photoshop functions then slice that design
do your layout with divs make sure that it’s aligned
please don’t use tables even though they work fine
when it come to indexing they give searches a hard time
make it easy for the spiders to crawl what you provide
remove font type, font color and font size
no background colors, keep your coding real neat,
tag your look and feel on a separate style sheet
better results with xml and css
now you making progress, a lil closer to success
describe your doctype so the browser can relate
make sure you do it great or it won’t validate
check in all browsers, I do it directly
gotta make sure that it renders correctly
some use IE, some others use Flock
some use AOL, I use Firefox
title everything including links and images
don’t use italics, use emphasis
don’t use bold, please use strong
if you use bold that’s old and wrong
when you use CSS, you page will load quicker
client satisfied like they eating on a snicker
they stuck on your page like you made it with a sticker
and then they convert now that’s the real kicker
make you a lil richer, your site a lil slicker
design and code right man I hope you get the picture
what I’m telling you is true man it should be a scripture
if it’s built right you’ll be the pick of the litter
everyone will want to follow you like twitter
competition will get bitter and you’ll shine like glitter
if you trying to grow your company will get bigger
design and code right man can you get with it

I contracted with a web designer to do re design of a web site. The contract was for 10 pages. Edit text fix translations (in Japanese). Translate and make some additions to conform to my English site. The designer sent me note saying all ten were done as well as many extras and wanted to be paid. In looking at the pages i can see some obvious things that need to be altered. Not asking for anything major. Old news in the news section, English typos. The designer refuses to do any further work without extra payment. I think this is unreasonable, but am being told this is the way it is in the business. Can someone fill me in on this. Am I reasonable to show my dissatisfaction and ask for minor modifications and corrections.
If the designer has delivered exactly what you asked him for then he’s well within his right to ask for further payment to make more changes, otherwise people could just keep on asking for more changes to their sites without having to pay any more the web designers would basically become bankrupt.
If however these changes you want are to fix mistakes he’s made, or to do stuff you did actually contract him to do the first time round, then he should do it for free as he’s not delivered what you agreed between you.

You definaltely want to stay clear of seo firms that don’t shows signs of evolving, algos never sleep. The days of keyword stuffing and automatic search engine submissions are long gone.
SEO has transformed into marketing, conversion, usability, local search, people pleasing, analysis and testing.

When establishing your Pay Per Click Campaign, be careful not to make one of the three most common mistakes. Not enough keywords, brainstorming only tactics and relying on popular and free tools only can be detrimental to your campaign.
Do not get caught without enough keywords. Although the preference would be upwards of a couple thousand you should at least be able to come up with many keywords that are relative to what your potential customers are looking for. Make it easy for customers to find you by increasing your keyword count and throwing in all niche terms you possibly can.
Be careful of how you come up with your keywords. Relying solely on brainstorming doesn’t necessarily reflect the searches purchase intentions. Brainstorming is also the most obvious method making it also the most competitive. Without the use of other tools, brainstorming will lead to only a limited number of keywords which as stated above doesn’t provide the best results.
Wordtracker and Google Keyword Tool are by far two of the most popular keyword research tools available. They are also used by your competitor, which means the results you receive are highly competitive keywords. There is a lower conversion rate using these tools because the results are volume-based.
A successful Pay Per Click Campaign uses both Quality and Quantity. Having a core set of keywords and preferably thousands of niche words that reflect what your business sells and what your consumers are looking for has extreme advantages. Don’t sell yourself short by making one of the mistakes above.

So often I hear business owners make the statement “the internet is the future.” Well that’s true only if we’ve time-warped back a decade. The internet is now and it’s growing faster than any other medium out there. We all know that deep in our hearts because we use the internet for everything every day. But business owners are busy people who have lured themselves into thinking that a great website design is something that can wait. If you own a business and want success now or anytime in the immediate future, RIGHT NOW is when you should be taking a serious look at your website design.
Philadelphia website design companies are a dime a dozen. It’s total confusion for the business owners trying to make a wise buying decision when choosing among website design companies. Business owners don’t understand why one Philadelphia website design company makes a proposal for a site for $300 and another company submits a proposal for 2, 3, or X times more for a website design that seems relatively the same. No wonder they are telling themselves it’s okay to wait. It’s a painful decision when you don’t understand what makes a website design great, mediocre or nothing better than an online brochure.
The majority of Philadelphia website design companies out there are graphic designers. They have been educated on how to make a site look pretty on the front-end – the side the public sees. That’s important no doubt. The back-end of a site, actually, matters more because it’s the spiders that decide which website will get the best organic placement. You can have the best looking site and be the best in your industry, but if the back-side of your site isn’t handled properly, you’re going to miss out the potential buyers that are looking for a company like you.
An easy way of knowing if you’re talking to a Philadelphia website design company worth its salt is asking about their track record with other clients. The Philadelphia website design companies that are loved by their customers are the ones that convert searches into contacts (aka conversions.) These companies are being provided with valuable business intelligence reports called analytics that show a wealth of data about their site’s performance. With this information, the mystery of how to win is removed and they’re empowered with the data that tells them how their performing now and how to keep winning in the internet world.
